Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Pitch Notes.

Accumulator
A single bet that links multiple selections; all choices must win for the bet to pay out.

Asian Handicap
A handicap given to each team that removes the draw option and balances the perceived difference in strength.

Bankroll Management
The practice of deciding how much of your total budget to risk on each bet to avoid running out of money.

Bet Slip
A record of the selections you have made and the amount you are wagering.

Bonus
Extra funds or credits added to your account by the sportsbook, often subject to conditions before you can withdraw.

Bookmaker
A company that sets odds and accepts bets.

Both Teams To Score
A bet on whether each team will score at least one goal during the match.

Cashback
A refund of a portion of your losses, usually offered as a bonus that can be used for further bets.

Double Chance
A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes (home win/draw, away win/draw, or home/away win) in one wager.

Draw No Bet
A bet where you win if your chosen team wins, and get your stake back if the match ends in a draw.

Free Bet
A promotional token that lets you place a bet without using your own money; any winnings are usually returned to you.

Juice
Another name for the bookmaker’s margin; the extra profit the bookmaker keeps by adjusting the odds.

Line Movement
The change in odds or point spreads after they are first posted, often caused by betting action or new information.

Margin
The built‑in profit percentage a bookmaker includes in the odds, so the odds are lower than the true chance of the event.

Odds
The number that tells you how much you can win relative to your stake, and reflects how likely a result is.

Over/Under
A bet on whether the total number of goals (or points) in a match will be higher or lower than a set number.

Payout
The total money you receive if your bet wins, including your original stake.

Provably Fair
A system that uses math to prove that a bet’s outcome was not tampered with.

Short for Return to Player; the percentage of total wagers a game is expected to pay back to players over time.

A rapid, widespread shift in odds across many bookmakers, usually because a large amount of money is placed on one side.

A measure of how much a game’s payouts fluctuate; high volatility means larger but less frequent wins.
